When I joined Maryam Shipmanagement on 21st October 2024, I brought years of experience as a marine engineer and third engineer on board vessels. What I didn’t expect was how quickly this company would become more than just an employer but a platform for genuine professional growth.
As a Technical Administrator, my role centres on planned maintenance systems and daily routine work. The transition from shipboard operations to shore-based technical support required adapting my engineering mindset to data management and systematic planning.
My current project involves creating a comprehensive database for Danaos software, a leading maritime enterprise resource planning system used widely across the shipping industry. The work entails building the framework for routine machinery jobs and organising them according to their schedule, such as monthly jobs, two-monthly jobs and beyond. I have recently completed the database for ten vessels and I am genuinely proud of this accomplishment.
What makes this work satisfying isn’t just the technical challenge. It’s seeing how proper planning and data organisation directly supports our vessels. Every machine on board requires scheduled maintenance, and the system I’m building ensures nothing falls through the cracks. When I report daily to our line managers and see the progress we’re making, there’s a real sense of accomplishment.
The Support That Makes Remote Work Possible
Working remotely from India brings its own challenges. We are not physically together in the Dubai office, so all communication happens online. The company’s commitment to continuous improvement means we are constantly exploring new platforms and methods to connect people more efficiently. I can see real progress in this area, which is reassuring. It’s good to work for an organisation that recognises there is always room for improvement and systematically works towards it.
The technical support here is exceptional. Whenever I am seeking guidance from my line manager or even the managing director, my experience is they’re not just willing to help; they’re genuinely invested in our development.
Take the recent management review meeting in Dubai, for example. Being invited to participate in these high-level discussions while I’m still relatively new to the company demonstrates real trust. It’s not just about being present. It’s about having the opportunity to contribute ideas and see how strategic decisions are made. Maryam Shipmanagement is giving me opportunities to grow, and that makes all the difference to how I approach my work.
The work culture itself encourages innovation. In the marine field, there’s enormous scope for research and development and finding ways to develop work frameworks that accomplish more in less time. The company actively encourages us to share ideas that enhance our working ability, and that openness to improvement is motivating.
If I were to summarise my experience in three words, they would be: vision, policy and opportunity. The company has a clear vision of where it’s heading. It maintains strong policies around safety and work culture. And crucially, it provides genuine opportunities for career progression.
