My proudest achievement might sound simple: mastering the new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. After 25 years in shipping administration, learning new software is no small feat, especially when it works so differently. It proves experience isn’t a barrier to learning. It shows adapting is possible even after decades of routine. And with support, change becomes manageable rather than a threat.
I consider myself a perfectionist. Organisation is my strong suit. I don’t leave tasks half done. Over 25 years, this approach has kept me steady. I’ve never faced major difficulties because I maintain systems that catch problems before they start. Every certificate for every one of the vessels is up to date. HR work is done well before deadlines. Good systems plus discipline means the work flows smoothly.
That’s why when the new ERP system was introduced, it posed a real challenge. It was completely new. After decades with familiar tools, adapting to this system took effort.
What helped most was support from colleagues. Everyone pitched in, explaining features, showing me the ropes and making sure I could use the new system confidently. That support means everything when you face big changes.
Though everyone is busy, helping out is second nature here. When one person struggles with new processes, others step in naturally. It’s not a formal mentoring programme, it’s just how we work.
We have good leadership at the helm. The relationship is open and supportive. I feel comfortable raising issues or asking questions: no nerves, no hesitation.
My goal is simple: excellence. Keep certificates current, process visas on time, handle payments accurately. It’s not small work. It’s the backbone of dependable operations.
These goals can be met because we have a systematic, professional culture. Or in other words ship management done properly, with clear policies, sound systems and standards met reliably.
Ours is also a happy environment and I would recommend it. Yes, there’s pressure. But pressure belongs wherever high standards matter.
